Clifford C.  Wagner
Dr. Clifford C. Wagner, 90, of Wernersville, and formerly of Hamburg and Nesquehoning, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at his residence at Phoebe Berks. He was the husband of Doris A. (Allwein) Wagner, who died June 7, 2016.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Benjamin S. and Ruth G. (Confer) Wagner. He was a 1945 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 1951 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, becoming a Doctor of Optometry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Dr. Wagner was a self-employed Optometrist in Hamburg from 1952 until retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Dr. Wagner is a life member of Behler-Hein Post 637 American Legion, Hamburg; and a life member of Vaux Lodge #406 F&AM, Hamburg. He was a past president of the Hamburg Exchange Club; former member of the Pennsylvania Medical Advisory Board; and member of the Berks County, Pennsylvania, and American Optometric Associations for 50 years, serving in numerous capacities. During Dr. Wagner's last 5 years, he had developed wonderful relationships and friendships while residing at Phoebe. He also became very involved in cultural and sporting events there. Dr. Wagner was known for his stories and sense of humor.
Dr. Wagner is survived by one son: Jeffrey L. Wagner, husband of Deborah L. (Edstrom) Wagner, Nesquehoning, PA; step-granddaughter: Diane N. Salnicky, Orangeville, PA; brother-in-law: Richard Allwein, husband of Linda, Mt. Penn; nieces and nephews; and his canine grand-dog: I.C.
Services will be held on Monday at 11:30 am from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 99 Church Street, Hamburg, PA 19526. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held in the church Monday 10:30 to 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, at the above address.
