Obituary for Richard H. "Rick" Schollenberger

Richard H. Schollenberger, "Rick", 66, of Centre Twp., passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Susan K. (Strausser) Schollenberger. They were married on December 16, 1999 and celebrated fifteen years of marriage.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Alberta M. (Fisher) Schollenberger. Rick was a 1966 graduate of Reading High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War; and a Purple Heart recipient. Rick worked for twenty-nine years as a letter carried for the U.S. Post Service, working from the Reading office. He was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Twp., where he was an elder and former member of church council. Rick was a member of the Marine Corp League; the American Legion; and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Rick also enjoyed attending the annual Marine reunions. He was very involved in organizing and participating in the annual Memorial Day service at Belleman's.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Stephanie L. (Schollenberger), wife of Robert Sellers, Leesport; and Michele L. (Schollenberger), wife of Christopher Rentschler, Windsor Twp.; one step-son: Matthew G. Schappell, Windsor Twp.; one step-daughter: Janene K. (Schappell), wife of Steven McRae, Shoemakersville; and ten grandchildren: Alyson, Emily, Deanna, Carter, Audrey, Abigail, Ethan, Porter, Elyssa, and Tanner. Rick is also survived by one brother: Robert Schollenberger, and his wife Arlene, Bradenton, Florida; one sister: Joan (Schollenberger), widow of Ronald Kepley, Leesburg, Florida; and his nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am from Salem (Belleman's) Church, 3540 Belleman's Church Road, Mohrsville, PA 19541. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and at the church on Saturday 10:00 to 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605 or Belleman's Church Endowment Fund, at the above address, in memory of Richard H.
