Obituary for Norma J. Berger (Sterner)

Norma J. Berger, 90, of Shoemakersville, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. She was the wife of Lewis R. Berger, who died May 1, 2008.
Born in Kutztown, she was the daughter of the late Peter S. and Gertrude E. (Reider) Sterner. Norma went to the Kutztown State College Lab School until the ninth grade and then graduated from Kutztown High School in 1945. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Shoemakersville. Norma was a traveler reaching all 50 states and also traveled to five countries including Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the Figi Islands. She helped start the Shoemakersville Swimming Pool Associaiton and stayed active in the organization until the pool was transferred to the Borough of Shoemakersville. Norma was active with the Shoemakersville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and had served as its Vice-President and also helped build the present day Fire Hall. She was a Camp Fire Girls leader for the Shoemakersville Junior High girls.
Norma is survived by her children: Kay L. (Berger) Lambi, Reading; Lois A. (Berger) Feight, Boyertown; Charles R. Berger, Tilden Twp.; and Kriss A. Berger, Perry Twp.; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers: Charles, William and Peter Sterner; and five sisters: Dorothy Rentschler, Myrtle Boyer, Gloria Balthaser, Gayle Christman and Grace Folk.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 am from St. Luke's Cemetery, Shoemakersville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Salem United Methodist Church, 605 Main Street, Shoemakersville, PA 19555.
