Obituary for Kathryn L. Bortz (Zettelmoyer)

Kathyrn L. Bortz, 100, formerly of Hamburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 in Brandywine Assisted Living, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where she resided for 3 1/2 years. There she was cared for and loved by the many wonderful staff members and residents alike. In the last 1 1/2 years of her life she was also cared for by the compassionate staff at Vitas Hospice. She was the wife of Arthur H. Bortz, who died January 2, 2015.
Born in Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert E.W. and Jennie (Kiebach) Zettelmoyer. Kathryn was a 1936 graduate of Hamburg High School. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg, where she sang on the choir. Kathryn was also a member of Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg. She enjoyed playing cards and charades with her husband and their friends, golfing and bowling. Kathryn also enjoyed the family vacations to Stone Harbor, New Jersey; and the fishing trips with family and friends to various areas of Canada. She was greatly loved and will be missed by many.
Kathryn is survived by two beloved daughters: Laurie E. Bortz, Lewes, DE; and Jennie R. (Bortz), wife of Gary Gowans, Stone Harbor, NJ; and two grandsons: Gavin and Jerrid. She is also survived by her cousin Louise (Kiebach) Rabold of Winston Salem, NC whose many letters and cards throughout her stay at Brandywine were a constant source of comfort and joy.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 10:30 am in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 99 Church Street, Hamburg, PA 19526. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
