Obituary for Chester P. Kauffman

Chester P. Kauffman, 89, of Shoemakersville, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 in San Jacinto Manor, Deer Park, TX. He was the husband of the late Marian E. (Swoyer) Kauffman, who died October 6, 2017. Chester and Marian were happily married for 68 years.

Born in Mohrsville, he was the son of the late Paul and Lucy (Free) Kauffman. He was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. Chester worked for R&L Farms, "The Feed Mill" in Shoemakersville and later as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, retiring in 1988. He had two trucks with license plates on the front that read "Chet." He was a member of Shoemakersville Fire Company, Shoemakersville Senior Citizens, a former member of Teamsters, and will always be remembered as a hard worker and a kind-hearted man. Chester was an avid collector of pennies, enjoyed casino trips, and traveling, played bingo, and enjoyed spending time at the Third Street Cafe, Hamburg. Every Christmas he would visit Florida, and enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and Texas. He was known by some of his friends as Chet.

Chester is survived by two sons: Ricky C. husband of Lennia J. (Schappell) Kauffman, Windsor Twp., and Randy L. husband of Brenda L. (Groff) Kauffman, LaPorte, TX; grandchildren: Brandi wife of Shawn Gravish, Windsor Township, Angie Kauffman companion of Phoebe Freeman, Houston Texas, Jodi wife of Fred Kohler, League City, Texas and great grandchildren, BreAnna, Tyler, Haley, Hannah and Presley. He is also survived by a brother: Jack Kauffman, Shoemakersville, and a sister: Catherine (Kauffman) wife of Donald Homm, Hamburg.

Services will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street Hamburg (off-street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Shoemakersville. Viewings will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
