Wayne H.  Schappell
Wayne H. Schappell, 78 of Bern Twp., died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading. He was the husband of Lucille B. (Schwartz) Schappell. They were married October 10, 1964 and celebrated 51 years of marriage.
Born in Windsor Castle, he was the son of the late Howard H. and Olive G. (Faust) Schappell. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1955. He was a US Air Force Veteran. Wayne was a member of Zion's Church, Hamburg. He worked as a barber in Shoemakersville for 10 years, later working for Met-Ed in the surveying department in Reading, and finally worked as a truck driver for New Penn, for 13 years before his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the former Shoemakersville Jaycees. He was an avid golfer, hunter, and bowler. He also enjoyed fishing. Wayne and his wife enjoyed spending time in Florida over the winter months. He was named Orange Manor's Sportsman of the Year 2010 in Winter Haven, FL. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Jon W. husband of Scarlett A. (Butler) Schappell, Collegeville and David A. Schappell husband of Karen A. Janosky, Los Angeles, CA; and two granddaughters: Julia and Catherine. He is also survived by a brother: Lee Schappell, Shoemakersville, and a sister: Betty (Schappell) Dreibelbis, Shoemakersville. He was predeceased by a sister: Dora Grim.
Services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 am from Zion's Church, 770 Zion's Church Rd. Hamburg, PA 19526. A viewing will be held in the church from 9:30 to 11:00 am. The Schappell Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at Reading Hospital for the incredible care that they offered to Wayne.
