Roland B.  Smith Sr.
Roland Brent Smith, Sr., 90, formerly of Hamburg, went to sleep in Jesus in his Jackson Twp., Lebanon Co., residence. He was the husband of Elizabeth L.D. (Glover) Smith. They were married July 3, 2005, and celebrated 12 years of marriage.
Born in Poplarville, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Corbett F. and Sallie I. (Haden) Smith. He was a member of Hamburg Community Seventh Day Adventist Church, Hamburg, and frequently attended the Lebanon Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Roland worked for 41 years at the former Harris Pine Mill, Hamburg where he was the plant manager. He retired November 30, 1990. He was a former elder at church, and Sabbath School Teacher. He was a member of Harmonia Music Association, Lebanon. Roland enjoyed reading, woodworking, and going for walks. He was known to be a great story teller and family man. He loved his Lord and was a “real Christian man.”
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Roland Brent Smith, Jr., husband of Donna Jean (Halye) Smith, Reading, Kenneth W. husband of Karen (Weinhold) Smith, Bern Twp.; three daughters: Charlotte L. (Smith) wife of David Innocenti, Panama City, FL, Susan K. Smith, and her friend Thomas R. Baker, Hamburg, and Polly A. (Smith) wife of John D. Schneider, Schuylkill Haven; nine grandchildren: Melissa, Angela, Michael, Steven, Nadine, Amanda, Carolyn, Elizabeth, and Nathaniel; nine great-grandchildren: Atticus, Ricky, Gulio, Jelena, Ethan, Jeremiah, Ruth Ann, Brandon, and Lakesha; and two step-grandchildren: Ellen and Kory. He is also survived by his step-children: Michael W.D. Lutley, husband of Kathy, Michigan, Pamela S. R. (Lutley) Knocklein, wife of George, Connecticut, and Geoffrey H.F. Lutley, husband of Kate, Connecticut; step-grandchildren: Bryan, Ellen, Kevin, Allison, Christopher, Matthew, Kara, and Eric; and his step great-grandchildren: Amada, Benjamin, and Alan; and his brother: Marlin D. Smith, Mississippi. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years: Gladys E. Smith, died December 29, 2002; an infant son: Leslie Alvin Smith; two brothers: Joyce, and Ernest; and a sister: Jewel; a granddaughter: Jennifer; and a great-granddaughter: Chloe.
Services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm from Hamburg Community Seventh Day Adventist Church, 22 Willow Road Hamburg, Pa 19526. Burial will follow in Zion’s Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the church from 12 noon to 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hamburg Community Seventh Day Adventist Church at the above address.
