Ronald C.  Beissel Sr.
Ronald C. Beissel, Sr., 79, of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away in his residence with his family by his side on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Bagenstose) Beissel. They were married on July 13, 1957 and celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late William H., Sr. and Mabel R. (Lascomb) Beissel. He was a 1956 graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School. Ronald served his country in the U.S. Navy as a radioman 3rd class. He was on the USS Rich based out of Norfolk, Virginia from 1958-1960. He worked for Empire Steel and retired from Carpenter Technology. Ron was a hard worker and provided well for his family. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. Ron also enjoyed crossword puzzles and word jumbles. He was a member of the Tin Can Navy Association and the USS Rich Association. Ron was a life member of Temple Fire Company and Goodwill Fire Company; and a member of the Bern Township Senior Citizens. He was a past president of United Steelworkers from Empire Steel.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Cynthia A. (Beissel) Lorah, and her companion William Calpino, Exeter Twp.; and Ronald C. "Skeet" Beissel, Jr., and his wife Denise (Downs) Beissel, Mohrsville; five grandchildren: Jennifer, Andrew, Adam, Brent K., and Kyle; and six great-grandchildren: Madison, Aubrey, Adalyn, Avery, Brennan and Anna. Ronald is also survived by three brothers: Robert L. Beissel, and his wife Alice, Ontelaunee Twp.; Kenneth Beissel, and his wife Fay, Bern Twp.; and William H. Beissel, Jr., and his wife Nancy, Centre Twp.; two sisters: Sarah Yoder, widow of Luther, Centre Twp.; and Janice Hoffert, wife of Lee, Hamburg; and one sister-in-law: June Beissel. He was predeceased by one brother: Paul A. Beissel; and one sister: Florence Reinhart, and her husband Rich.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, Comfort Keepers and the staff of the oncology department of Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Ronald.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home Monday 9:30 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
