Obituary for William F Koenig III
William F. Koenig, III, 85, of Muhlenberg Twp., passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn J. (Dunkelberger) Koenig. They were married on September 22, 1951 and celebrated sixty-five years of marriage.
Born in Ontelaunee Twp., he was the son of the late William F., Jr. and Catherine (Luckenbill) Koenig. William was a 1949 graduate of Perry High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for forty-two years, retiring as a Warrant Officer 4. William also worked as a bricklayer for different contractors; sold brick for Glen-Gery; and retired as a machinist for Isimac. He was an active member of St. John's (Gernant's) Church, Ontelaunee Twp., where he was a past president and member of consistory, treasurer of the church, church elder, and choir member for over sixty years. William was a member of the Muhlenberg Community Chorus and Horizon (Encore) Singers. He enjoyed going to his cabin in the Poconos, gardening, singing and reading.
Surviving in addition his wife are two sons: Gary S. Koenig, and his wife Diane, Oley; and Richard W. Koenig, and his wife Marianne, Womelsdorf; two daughters: Anne L. (Koenig), wife of Lee Jarmoska, Cumru Twp.; and Susan K. (Koenig), wife of Peter Vanderhoof, Oxford; seven grandchildren: Bryan, Kevin, Jennifer, Brandon, Steven, Hannah, and Christina; and five great-grandchildren: Grace, Nathaniel, William, Mackenzie and Ethan.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John's (Gernant's) Cemetery, Ontelaunee Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's (Gernant's) Church, 12 Gernant's Church Road, Leesport, PA 19533.
