Doris A.  Wagner (Allwein)
Doris A. Wagner, 87, of Wernersville and formerly of Hamburg and Nesquehoning, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Penn State Health St. Joseph. She was the wife of Dr. Clifford C. Wagner. They were married on September 9, 1951 and celebrated sixty-four years of marriage.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Alice C. (Wagner) Allwein. Doris was a 1947 graduate of Reading High School. She served as Office Manager and Paraoptometric for her husband, Dr. Clifford C. Wagner, for forty-one years until her retirement in 1993. Doris was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. She served as Past President of the Berks County, Pennsylvania and American Optometric Association Auxiliaries receiving the Van Essen Award and Distinguished Service Award for her many activities. Doris was a member of the Berks County Federation of Womens Clubs and appointed by Governor Thornburgh to formulate the PA Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders and became the Region 3 Director of the National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders. She was a member of the Reading Area Community College Foundation Board and served as Hamburg Chairperson of the March of Dimes, Easter Seals, American Cancer Society, Heart Association and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Doris enjoyed retirement at Lake Hauto from 1993 - 2012 and at Phoebe Berks since April 2012.
Surviving in addition to her husband is one son: Jeffrey L. Wagner, and his wife Deborah, of Nesquehoning, Carbon Co.; one brother: Richard N. Allwein, Mt. Penn; several nieces and nephews; and her canine granddog, I.C.
Services will be held on Monday at 11:30 am from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 99 Church Street, Hamburg. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A visitation with the family will be held in the church Monday 10:30 to 11:30 am.
