Obituary for Ralph F. Schappell

Ralph F. Schappell, 90, formerly of Centerport, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living, Boyertown, where he resided. He was the husband of Florence A. (Ketner) Schappell, to whom he was married 67 years.
Born in Perry Twp., he was the son of the late Elmer L. and Gertrude (Hein) Schappell. Ralph was a graduate of Perry High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Ralph worked as a cabinet finisher for Quaker Maid, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Maidencreek Church, Blandon. Ralph was a Grange member for more than fifty years and served as the Master and Treasurer of the Centerport Grange. He was a former member of the Consistory at Zion's Church. Ralph was an avid bowler for many leagues.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons: Larry A. Schappell, husband of Doris (Hepner) Schappell, Kutztown; Dennis R. Schappell, Bowmanstown; Rick F. Schappell, husband of Ann (Gouse) Schappell, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Steven T. Schappell, husband of Audra (Salisbury) Schappell, Blandon; one daughter: Renee Y. (Schappell), wife of Kenneth Weist, Frenswood, Texas; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer's Association, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
