Clyde C. Casper, Sr., 89, of Windsor Twp., died Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Laurel Center, Tilden Twp. He was the husband of Arlean J. (Ring) Casper, they were married May 1, 1943 and celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Raymond, Sr. and Maggie (Correll) Casper. Clyde worked as a knitter for Hamburg Knitting Mill and Windsor Knitting Mill retiring from Wright’s Knitting Mill as a supervisor in the Knit House in 1988. Clyde first worked as a truck driver for Lenhart Lumber, Hamburg for 14 years. Clyde was a US Marine Corp veteran from World War II. He was a member of St. Paul’s (Smoke) Church, Windsor Twp., a life member of Union Fire Co. No. 1 of Hamburg and Beneficial Association, life member of Behler-Hein Post No. 637 American Legion, Hamburg, Berks Co. Fireman’s Association, and Pikeville Rod and Gun Club. Clyde was a volunteer fireman for 35 years, later serving as a Fire Policeman for a few years. Clyde was also a former Police Officer for the borough of Hamburg. He always enjoyed watching the birds, deer, bears, and turkeys behind his home.
Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Clyde C. Jr., husband of Linda L. (Hess) Casper; a grandson: Chris A. husband of Tammy L. (Mountz) Casper, Hamburg; a granddaughter; four great-granchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters.
Services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 8:00 P.M. from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street Hamburg, PA 19526 (off street parking in rear). Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
