Donald P. Kauffman, 72, of Perry Twp., passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 in his residence. He was the husband of Elaine A. (Hafer) Kauffman. They were married on July 3, 1965 and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Paul L. and Violet M. (Schlappich) Kauffman. Donald was a 1961 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Donald worked as a cook for Wegman's Restaurant retiring in 2006. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale. Donald was a member and former adjutant for Behler-Hein Post 637 American Legion, Hamburg; a life member of Union Fire Company #1, Hamburg; and a member of Wagner-Good Post 216 V.F.W., Hamburg; Hamburg Game Associaiton; and Loyal Order of Moose #523, Hamburg. Donald was a member, past president, past District president, past County president and and past State President of P.O.S. of A. Washington Camp #78, Hamburg (Patriotic Order Sons of America).
Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Dean A. Kauffman, and his wife Shari, Allentown; one daughter: Tricia A. (Kauffman), wife of Kenneth H. Romberger, Hamburg; four grandchildren: Christopher, Derek, Gabrielle, and Alexis; and three great-grandchildren: Samantha, Autumn, and James. Donald is also survived by a sister: Sandra (Kauffman), wife of Daniel O. Emore, Reading. He was predeceased by a granddaughter: Samantha Sue.
Services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Thursday 10:00 to 11:30 am, with a P.O.S. of A. service at 11:15 am. Memorial contributions may be sent to Union Fire Co. #1, P.O.
