Walter E. Johnson, 82, formerly of Albany Twp., died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Topton where he resided. He was the husband of Linda J. (Ahrens) Johnson, who died November 5, 1997. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Erhart A. and Mary (Kurtz) Johnson. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Walter graduated from Kutztown University in 1962. He was a social studies teacher for the Hamburg Area School District; and also for Northwest Middle School, Reading. Walter later worked for the Berks County Housing Redevelopement Office; and then for Berks County as a rehabilitation supervisor and labor compliance for ten years. He was a track and wrestling coach at Hamburg Area High School. Walter is survived by one brother: Kenneth K. Johnson, Wernersville; and several nieces and nephews.
