Virginia M. Wink, 82, of Hamburg died Friday, April 11, 2014 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. She was the wife of Arlan R. Wink, who died March 9, 1998.
Born in Mahanoy City, she was the daughter of the late Wassil and Mary (Sisak) Suda. She was a 1948 graduate of Mahanoy City High School. Virginia worked for Wright's Knitting Mill, Hamburg for 20 years until retiring in 1995. She was an actively involved member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Tilden Twp.; where she served as Eucharistic Minister and lector; past president and member of the Women's Guild; and an associate member with the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Virginia was involved in various community organizations. She was a charter member and past president of Hamburg Jaycee Wives and the Lioness Club of Hamburg. Virginia was a member of Women of Moose and College of Regents for over 30 years. She was a member of the Hamburg Senior Citizens, serving as Chaplain; and a member of the Hamburg Lions Club, where she was a board member, past president and recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. Virginia was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Behler-Hein Post #637 American Legion, Hamburg; and a former secretary and treasurer of the Hamburg Area Band Boosters. Virginia will be remembered for portraying Mrs. Clause in the Hamburg Christmas parade and at various other events in Hamburg for many years.
Virginia is survived by three daughters: Mary Ann V. Wink Kline, wife of Wayne Kline, Hamburg; Elizabeth W. (Wink) wife of David Price, Columbus, NJ; and Nancy A. (Wink) wife of Ronald Harrington II, New Berlin, NJ; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a half-brother: Eugene Suda, Barnesville. She was predeceased by a half-brother: Basil Suda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:30 am from St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 94 Walnut Rd., Hamburg, PA 19526. Burial will follow in St. Paul's (Smoke) Cemetery, Windsor Twp. A visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 from 6:00-8:30 pm in Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off-street parking in rear) and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 am in the church. A Lions and Moose Service will be held during the visitation on Monday evening. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary Roman Catholic Church at the above address.
