Vincent J. Riegel, 87, of Upper Tulpehocken Twp., died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Betty J. (Graeff) Riegel. They were married on May 7, 1949 and celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Born in Shartlesville, he was the son of the late James and Elsie (Moyer) Riegel. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. Vincent worked as a car transporter for forty-two years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. Vincent was also a member for fifty-three years of the Shartlesville Lions Club, where he was twice President; a life member of the Shartlesville Fish and Game Association; life member of Upper Bern Twp. Veterans; a member of American Legion Post 0732, Bernville; member of Loyal Order of Moose, Hamburg; and a member of the Shartlesville, Strausstown and Mt. Pleasant Fire Companies. Vincent played the trumpet in the Centerport Band for thirty years. He enjoyed horses and watching NASCAR.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons: Craig R. Riegel, and his wife Carol, Upper Bern Twp.; Carey S. Riegel, Upper Tulpehocken Twp.; and Chris J. Riegel, and his wife Sharon, Marion Twp.; three daughters: Cynthia A. Wilson, Asheboro, NC; Susan J. Reber, wife of Kerwin, Schwenksville; and Wendy J. Hartman, Windsor Twp.; thirteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Vincent was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.
Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Monday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
