Susanna C. Althouse, 95, formerly of Hamburg, died Thursday, December 20, 2012 in Berks Heim where she resided since February 2008. She was the wife of Irwin D. Althouse, who died September 30, 1974. Born in Ringtown, Schuylkill Co., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Ellen (Rumble) Ulshafer. She was a 1935 graduate of Perry High School. Susanna and her husband owned and operated the family dairy farm in Tilden Twp. from 1939-1953. She also worked as a folder for the Crown Knitting Mill, Mohrsville; and last worked at the Berks Heim as a kitchen aide until her retirement. Susanna was a member of the Ontelaunee Grange. Susanna is survived by one son: Ronald I. Althouse, Lobachsville; one daughter: Ramona S. (Althouse), wife of Edward N. McFarland, Mohnton; six grandchildren: R. Brian Althouse; Cynthia Althouse; Bruce Althouse; Renee Fisher; Jason Althouse; and Brad Fichthorn; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son: Rodney R. Althouse, died May 27, 2006; one brother: Ray Ulshafer; and one sister: Verda Ulshafer. Graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:00 pm from Leesport Cemetery.
