Shirley L. Schappell, 75, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center. She was the wife of Leon A. Schappell, Sr., who died July 24, 2012. Born in West Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lovie (Henn) Miller. Shirley first worked as an aide at the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp.; and last worked for fifteen years in the dietary department of the Hamburg Center, until retiring in 2006. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Shirley is survived by one son: Leon A. Schappell, Jr., Hamburg; three daughters: Lorraine A. Schappell, Edenburg; Sherryl L. Schappell and Brenda L. Faust, both of Cressona; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother: Robert Miller, Hamburg; and four sisters: Betty Coldren, Reading; Irene Steely and Margaret Smith, both of Hamburg; and Nancy Adam, Shoemakersville. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
