Sally Ann Hackworth, 79, of Langhorne, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 in Twining Village Personal Care, Holland, Bucks Co., where she resided.
Born in Ashland, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Herman M. and Lota Mae (Layne) Hackworth. While Sally never married and had no children of her own, children were a central part of her life. During high school and college, Sally worked supervising summer programs for children at the Hamburg Park. She was a 1954 graduate of Hamburg High School. After graduating from Kutztown University, she worked as a first grade teacher for 39 years in the Bensalem School District in lower Bucks County. She loved interacting with her friend's children, her nephews and later her nephew's children. In retirement, Sally volunteered at St. Mary Thrift Store in Langhorne.
Sally is survived by one brother: John Hackworth, and his wife Jeanne, Oakmont, PA; three nephews: David (Susan); John (Kristi); and Matthew (Kristin); five great-nephews; and five great-nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Hanna (Hackworth) Baver; and a nephew, Andrew Hackworth.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home Saturday 10:30 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Compassionate Care Hospice, 3331 Street Road, Bensalem, PA 19020.
