Ruth M. Schappell, 95, formerly of Lenhartsville, a resident at Berks Leisure Living, Leesport, died Monday, August 25, in Berks Leisure Living. She was the widow of the late Sterling M. Schappell, Sr., died August 10, 1994.

Born in West Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Irvin D. and Della (Sterner) Kerschner. She was a member of Zion's Church, Perry Twp. Ruth worked as a sewing machine operator for area knitting mills for 47 years, retiring at age 62. She was a member of Eastern Star for 40 years, enjoyed playing bingo, and enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by two sons: Sterling M. Schappell, Jr., widow of Brenda Shollenberger, Bern Twp., and Ronald L. Schappell, husand of Jane L. (Adam), Windsor Twp.; a daughter: Susan R. (Schappell) Blatt, wife of Gene W., South Carolina; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great granchildren. She is also survived by a sister: Dorothy E. (Kerschner) Heckman, a resident at Berks Heim. Ruth was predeceased by her siblings: Harvey, Verna, Curtis, Edna, Mahlon, Paul, Fern, and Clarence.
