Ruth E. Heckman, 82, of Windsor Twp., died Saturday, June 25, 2011 in Kutztown Manor where she resided since June 1, 2008. She was the wife of Lloyd W. Heckman. They were married on December 27, 1947 and celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Born in Lenhartsville, she was the daughter of the late Calvin J. and Naomi S. (Sunday) Mengel. Ruth worked in the cafeteria at Hamburg High School. She then worked in the custodial department of the Laurel Nursing Home, Tilden Twp., until retiring in September 1991. She was a member of Zion's Lutheran Church, Perry Twp., where she was a member of the fellowship and altar committees. Ruth was a member and former officer of Blue Mt. Chapter #443 Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg.

Surviving in addition to her husband is one son: Dennis L., husband of Karen A. (Groff) Heckman, Windsor Twp.; one daughter: Karen R. (Heckman), wife of Kenneth Blue, Yuma, Arizona; four grandchildren: Andrea, Shelley, Nicole, and Lane; and one great-granddaughter: Rylee. Ruth is also survived by four brothers: Calvin S. Mengel, Maxatawny Twp.; Mylan H. Mengel, Charles E. Mengel, and Wayne E. Mengel, all of Windsor Twp.; and three sisters: Elva C. (Mengel) Hartman, New Tripoli; Mildred N. (Mengel) Shollenberger, Tilden Twp.; and Raelyn A. (Mengel) Mertz, Maxatawny Twp. She was predeceased by two brothers: Roy E. and Lester T. Mengel and one sister: Hannah Mengel.

Services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 am from Zion's Lutheran Church, Perry Twp. Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held on Tuesday 7:00 to 9:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, with Order of Eastern Star services at 8:00 pm.
