Obituary

Russell O. Miller, 86, of Maidencreek Twp., passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Marilyn R. (Merkel) Miller. They were married August 1, 1959 and celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Born in Greenwich Twp., he was the son of the late Herbert P. and Viola E. (Miller) Miller. He graduated from Kutztown High School in 1954. Russell was a member of the PA National Guard. In his younger years, Russell worked at various feed mills, Dietrich's Dairy and then for Prudential Insurance Company. From there he owned and operated locations of Miller's Food Markets in Virginville, Hamburg, Fleetwood, and Shartlesville. Later he and his wife owned and operated the Stagecoach Stop Restaurant for 17 years. He was a member of St. Luke's Union Church in Shoemakersville. He had been an active member of the Rotary Club and Hamburg Exchange Club. He was a member of Huguenot Lodge No. 377 F&AM, Kutztown, Rajah Shrine, Scottish Rite, Rotary Club, and the Moose. He was also a member of Virginville Fire Company, Virginville Senior Citizens and a life member of Virginville Grange. He was an active member of the Rajah Chanters, and had served as a former president of the chanters. He was extremely proud of his PA Dutch heritage. He served on the Berks County Fersommling Rawd for many years. Russell loved singing with "The Miller Brothers" for all of his life. The brothers sang together and told stories of their heritage. He enjoyed working outside, and enjoyed cooking PA Dutch food.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter: Tracy L. (Miller) Whitehead, wife of Ned C., LeRoy Twp., Bradford County; a son: Dean R. Miller, companion of Suzanne L. Bowman, Heidelberg Twp.; four grandchildren: Michael, Andrew, and Christian Whitehead, and Emily Sawyer; and two great-grandchildren: Monte and Jack Whitehead. He is also survived by his brothers: Lester C., husband of Faye Miller, Kutztown, Richard A., husband of Carolyn, Topton, Robert G., husband of Margaret, Kutztown, and William A., husband of Charlotte, Lynnport; and two sisters: Jean E. (Miller) Riley, Homosassa, Florida, and Elizabeth M. (Angstadt) Weigle, Lenhartsville. Russell was predeceased by a brother: Lee H. Miller

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 11:30 am in Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport. Burial will follow in Dunkel's Cemetery, Greenwich Twp.
