Russell Roy Ludwig, 74, of Centerport, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 in his residence. He was the companion and friend of Ethel M. (Balthaser) Spangler for the passed 43 years. Born in Newmanstown, he was the son of the late George M. and Florence M. (Clay) Ludwig. Throughout his life, he held a few jobs, Russell worked at Glen Gery Brick, Shoemakersville, Allentown Cement, Evansville for 13 years, Windsor Service, Reading for 10 years, and last worked for Dick Wessner, Inc., Hamburg until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed fishing, catching snapper turtles, hunting, and his antique truck. He was an avid watcher of Purple Martins, and was even a member of the Purple Martin Club. Russ enjoyed going to the Leesport Farmer's market every wednesday, participating in the flea markets. Over the years, he and Ethel traveled a lot and have fond memories of their trips together. He loved chickens, ducks, and rabbits, and eventually agreed to enjoy Ethel's cats. Surviving in addition to Ethel is two sons: Russell R. Ludwig, Jr., husband of Michelle (Street), Jefferson Twp., and Michael W. Ludwig husband of Lori (Kline), Topton; a daughter: Donna L. Ludwig, Lyons; seven grandchildren: Russell, III, Jeffery, Allen, Jr., Casey, Ashlee, Sean, and Joshua; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Kenn Rhine, Betty Sasnacht, Peggy Schoener, Mary Ann Krach, George Ludwig, Jr., Paul Ludwig, Donald Ludwig, Dorothy Boyer, Gloria Gerhart, Richard Ludwig, and Fern Martin. He was predeceased by a son: Allen R. Ludwig; a granddaughter: Paige; and a brother: Mark Ludwig. Services will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 12:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp.
