Richard P. Yerger, 87, of West Brunswick Twp., Schuylkill County, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in his residence. He was the husband of Shirley L. (Deibert) Yerger. They were married September 5, 1954 and celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Howard M. and Florence (Leibensperger) Yoder. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean war. Richard worked as a drill press operator at Progressive Machine Works, Hamburg for about 20 years, until retirement. In retirement, he owned and operated a lawn mowing business for about 15 years. He and his wife were "full-time campers" at one point- they enjoyed traveling all over for about 14 years, he always said he retired so he could travel.
He is survived by three sons: Ricky D. Yerger, Reading, Allen L. Yerger, wife of Janine, Auburn, and Keith D. Yerger, Hamburg; a daughter: Robin L. (Yerger) Riegel, widow of Russell, West Brunswick Twp.; six grandchildren: Russell (Kristy), Vanessa, Cory, Heather (Jim), Lance, and Cody; and five great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Joshua, Katie, Derek, and Aurelia. He is also survived by a brother: Larry Yerger, Hamburg; and his canine companion: Shea. He was predeceased by two brothers: Donald Yerger, and Howard Yerger, Jr.; and a sister: Mary Lou (Yerger) Lord.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Leesport is in charge of arrangements.
