Richard E. Schappel, 81, of Tilden Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 25, 2020 in his residence. He was the husband of Dorothy I. (Werley) Schappell. They were married on June 27, 1959 and celebrated sixty-one years of marriage. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Claude E. "Eddie" and Mary (Greenawald) Schappell. Richard worked as a salesman and mechanic for Schappell's AMC and Jeep, Shoemakersville. He was a Penn State Football and Philadelphia Phillies fan. Richard especially enjoyed car shows and won a best in show trophy in 2017. Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter: Suzanne R. (Schappell), wife of Terry Reber, Shoemakersville; and one grandson: Timothy Reber. Richard is also survived by a half-sister: Sharon Kershner, wife of Clyde Kershner, Shartlesville. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
