With the passing of Pearl Stitzel, the world lost a beautiful smile that brought laughter to her family and friends. She had many dear friends from work, church, card club, bingo, and volunteering at the Reading Hospital. They all enriched her daily life; she held the memories in her heart. Pearl entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Good Friday, April 6, 2012, in the Hospice of Lancaster County.
Pearl was born in Hamburg on February 11, 1920, and lived her adult life in the suburbs of Reading. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1937, was an accomplished cake decorator, worked many years at AT&T/Lucent, and was a long-time member of St. Luke's Evangelical Congregational Church in Shillington.
Pearl was the daughter of Clayton and Alvesta (Stetzler) Strausser, and the wife of her late husband, Lewis John Stitzel, who preceded her in death in 1987.
Surviving are her son: L. John Stitzel, married to Helen, of Manheim; and daughter: Rose Marie Hagy, of Reading. Pearl was a much loved grandmother to Troy Hagy, married to Lori, of Denver; Craig Stitzel, married to Amy, of Lititz; and Clayton Stitzel, married to Monica, of Manheim; and she was blessed with eight great-grandchildren. Pearl is also survived by two sisters: Thelma E. Fox, in Indiana; and Emily K. Haag, Centerport.
Pearl's life celebration will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Burial will be in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp.
