Pearl A. Fitzsimmons, 96, of Mohrsville, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 in Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville. She was taken there from Orwigsburg Center where she resided since May 2010. Her loved and loving husband of 34 years, Robert W. Fitzsimmons, died February 19, 1975.
Born January 20, 1916 in Weatherly, Pa., Pearl was the daughter of the late Lee and Minnie (Tyson) Acker.
She graduated from Honesdale High School and Wayne Commercial School in 1933. She first worked as a clerk in Van Deusen's Candy Store. She then worked for Bell Telephone Company in Plainfield, New Jersey. After moving to LaPlume, Pa., Pearl was a township auditor for many years and also a U.S. Postal clerk.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Factoryville, where she was a Sunday School teacher, member and director of the choir, trustee and treasurer. She more recently was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Twp.
Pearl was a leader of 4-H and Girl Scouts, and also an active member of Lackawanna County Penn State Extension Service. She was a past Matron and Deputy of District 18 of the Grand Chapter of Easter Star in Pennsylvania. Pearl was also an avid reader and enjoyed all types of needlework.
Surviving are one son: James L. Fitzsimmons, and his wife Carol, Factoryville; two daughters: Carol A. (Fitzsimmons), widow Rodger Melling, Elkview, West Virginia; and Maura L. (Fitzsimmons) Wesner, and the late Walter Wesner, Mohrsville; four grandchildren: Teisha, Carlee, Allyson, and Cristee; and three great-grandchildren: Nikailyn, Adrianna, and Rylee. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. Pearl was predeceased by a granddaughter: Jennifer; grandson: Cameron; three brothers; and two sisters.
