March 30, 1930 – June 4, 2024
Paul James Miller, 94, of Shoemakersville, PA, passed peacefully on June 4, 2024,
in the home he and Dorothy built in 1965 with the help of family and friends.
He was born March 30, 1930 in Perry Township, a son of the late Stanley O. &
Mabel H. (Hein) Miller.
He married Dorothy M. (Miller) September 14, 1958 and celebrated a 65-year
union.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James P. Miller (widower of Adeline
R.), Hamburg; two daughters, Dawn M. (wife of Marlin G. Dietrich), Kempton and
Brenda E. (wife of Donald D. Lengel), Pine Grove.
Grandchildren: Stephanie L. (wife of Erik Towles), Reading; Jaime O. Miller
(husband of Cheryl R.), Clearwater, FL; Emily B. (wife of Larry A. Kutz, Jr.),
Kempton; Andrew M. Dietrich, Kempton; Anson P. Dietrich, Kempton; Meredith A.
Lengel, Lancaster; Ian P. Lengel, New London, CT; Michelle B. Lengel (fiancée of
Cameron M. Eurich), Harrisburg; great grandson, Owen P. Kutz, Kempton.
He is survived by a brother, Ernest O. (husband of Elaine N.) Miller, Perry
Township, a sister-in-law, Marilyn M. Miller, Tilden Township, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Carl S. Miller, and a sister, Anne M. Bailey.
Paul attended Perry Township School. He was employed on the family farm and
then became a laborer, and in later years management, at Quaker Maid Kitchens,
Leesport, where he worked for 35 years. During retirement, he and Dorothy
committed their lives to family and volunteering. He enjoyed creating beautiful
wood projects in his workshop for family and friends and was a faithful
Philadelphia Phillies fan.
He was a lifelong member of Zion's Church (Windsor Castle) where he was a past
president of the Consistory and Sunday School. He was a trustee and caretaker of
Zion's Cemetery, Perry Township, for 35 years.
He was an 80 year member and past president of Virginville Grange, member of
Berks County Pomona, Pennsylvania State and National Granges. He was the
recipient of the 2010 Pennsylvania State Granger of the Year.
He was proud of his Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, spoke the dialect and
volunteered with Virginville Grange and Zion's Church at the Kutztown Folk
Festival since its inception.
He was a member of the Volunteer Service Board of Berks Heim, Shoemakersville
Senior Citizens, Shoemakersville and Virginville Fire Companies, AAA Reading-
Berks, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, Historical Societies of Berks County and
Hamburg, PA German Cultural Heritage Center, Teamsters Retirees, an associate
member of the Hamburg/Schuylkill Valley School Retirees, and a volunteer for the
Dreibelbis Cousins of America.

18017, or a charity of your choice, sent in c/o the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Monday, June 10, 2024 with Rev.
Randy A. Bond officiating. Viewings will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024 from 5-8pm
and Monday, June 10, 2024 from 10-11am. All gatherings will take place at
Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport, PA 19533. Burial
in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Township. A luncheon at Virginville Grange, 456 Main
Street, Virginville, PA 19564, will immediately follow Celebration of Life. Online
