Paul G. Hatt, 94, of Centerport, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he was a patient since December 21, 2013. He was the husband of Alice L. (Hoffman) Hatt. They were married on September 14, 1940 and celebrated 73 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Charles and Hannah (Wiskeyman) Hatt. Paul was a graduate of Wilson High School. He graduated from Eckel's College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia in 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Paul was a licensed funeral director for 62 years; first working at Fleischman Funeral Home in Pottstown and then for Burkey and Spacht Funeral Home, Hamburg for 30 years. He then worked for Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg-Leesport for 32 years, last working on October 8, 2013. Paul served as the supervisor of the Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc. former Centerport location for 19 years. Paul also drove school bus for Schuylkill Valley School District for many years. Paul was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Fire Co., and a life member of Liberty Fire Co., Sinking Spring, Rescue Fire Co. No. 1, Mt. Aetna., and Union Fire Co. No. 1 of Hamburg and Beneficial Association. Paul was also a life member of Behler-Hein Post No. 637 American Legion, Hamburg.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son: Grant L. Hatt, husband of Dolores E. (Kiebach) Hatt, Perry Twp., three grandchildren: Linda L. Kirkhoff, Leesport; Bonnie L. Jacoby, Perry Twp.; and Troy R. Hatt, Tilden Twp., and five great-grandchildren. Paul was predeceased by a son, Ronald P. Hatt, died November 29, 1999. He was also predeceased by five brothers: Sherwood, Archie, Woodrow, Harold, Clark.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc. 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Viewpoint Cemetery, Centre Twp.
