Obituary

Norman O. Merkel, 102, of Windsor Twp., passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 in ProMedica Laureldale. He was the husband of the late Ruth A. (LaFaver) Merkel, died February 18, 1972.

Born in Windsor Twp., he was the son of the late Floyd M. and Mary (Wisser) Merkel. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. A farmer his entire life, Norman and his brothers joined together in the early 1960s as they took over farming operations from their father and formed Merkel Brothers Farms. Norman was the longest tenured and oldest current member of the Virginville Grange. He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Association, and Life Member of Schuylkill County Motorcycle Club.

Norman is survived by two sons: Kenneth N. Merkel, Kempton, and Karl A. Merkel, companion of Betty L. Moyer, Windsor Twp; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by three brothers: Elton F. and Earl T. Merkel, and infant brother: Elwood; and three sisters: Helen B. (Merkel) Sunday, Betty V. (Merkel) Remp, and infant sister: Dorothy.

Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
