Obituary

Norman R. Kissinger, 95, of Leesport, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Irene E. (Miller) Kissinger, died September 28, 2001 Born in Dauberville, he was the son of the late Howard A. and Anna R. (Wentzel) Kissinger. He was a 1934 graduate of Ontelaunee Vocational School. Norman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He first worked as full-fashion knitting helper for Rosedale Knitting Mill in Laureldale. Norman then worked for thirty-five years as a motor tank driver, first for Esso Corp., then Exxon Corp. in Tuckerton, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Leesport, where he was a former secretary and president of the Consistory. Norman was a former officer and board member of the Leesport Cemetery Company. He was a life member of the Shoemakersville Fire Company and the Temple Fire Company; and a member of Leesport Fire Company; and Leesport Senior Citizens. Norman was a life member of the Rich Maiden Golf Course, where he had a hole-in-one. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. Norman is survived by his significant other: Arlene B. (Boyer) Miller, with whom he resided. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Karen Burnish, Benton Kissinger, Fern Fisher, Richard Strauss, Anna Mae Kline, Elaine Lockhart, Dianne Veljasevic, Allen Henn, Douglas Henn, Bruce Henn, Shirley Neider, Glenn Miller, Linda Hudson, Debra Wenger, and Dennis Miller; his brother-in-law: Harold "Freck" Miller, Hamburg; and Arlene's daughters: Patricia Freiwald and Carole Sassaman. Norman was predeceased by four brothers: Carl, Earl, Harold, and Ray Kissinger; and sisters: Florence Schlear, Helen Spayd and Mabel Strauss. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:00 am from Trinity United Church of Christ, 17 N. Centre Avenue, Leesport. Burial will follow in Leesport Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport, on Monday 7:00 to 8:30 pm and at the church Tuesday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
