Nevin W. Adams, 87, formerly of Shoemakersville., passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 in the Middletown Home, where he resided. He was the husband of Myra Faye (Taldo) Adams, who died September 23, 2015.
Born in Maidencreek Twp., he was the son of the late Paul W. and Florence M. (Wesner) Adams. Nevin was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He owned and operated Nevin W. Adams Wholesale Windows and Doors. Nevin was also a branch manager for twenty years at Roland and Roland Plywood; and also worked for HBC, Reading. He was a member of St. John's (Gernant's) Church, Ontelaunee Twp. Nevin was initiated into Leesport Lodge #141 I.O.O.F. on May 12, 1970. He served on the planning board for ten years, six years as chairperson; youth committee for three years, Grand Lodge Building committee for three years, Grand Chaplain for GM Bailey, and GM Brenneman; Chairman of the Lodge Study Committee; Education and Instruction Committee for three years. He served as Grand Master for two terms: 1999-2000 & 2000-2001. He was department commander of the Department Council of PA, PM 2002-2004; Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of PA 2004-2005, General Chairman of the 34th & 37th Unified Session, served on the Arthritis Committee since 1996, where he was treasurer from 9/96 to 4/17, Representative to Home for Orphans of Odd Fellows of PA since 2001, 9 years as treasurer, and as secretary/treasurer since 2013. Nevin served as a representative to the Odd Fellows Home in Middletown since 1999, and as a member of the Board of Directors since 2000; 8 years as 1st Vice President; and as Secretary/Treasurer since 2013; he also served on the membership committee for nine years. Nevin also served as Grand Representative to the SGL for 3 years; as secretary of Leesport Lodge #141 for seven years; Clerk of Canton Leesport #2 for 19 years, Treasurer of the Grand Encampment of PA for 8 years, and Treasurer of the Department Council of PA for 8 years. He served as president of the International Association of Odd Fellow and Rebekah Homes Region 3. During his 1st term as Grand Master he helped to institute Harmony Lodge #86; he instituted Genesis #15 Encampment when he was Grand Patriarch. He served as secretary/treasurer of the Middletown Home and also as secretary/treasurer of the Home for Orphans of PA, until June 30, 2021 when he resigned due to his health. Nevin and his wife hosted multiple exchange students from all over the world over the years with Rotary International, many of which they always considered to be their children.
He is survived my many nieces and nephews; and a sister: Elsie (Adams) Koller, Perry Twp. He was predeceased by two brothers: Woodrow and Paul Adams; and two sisters: Katie (Adams) Koller, and Mary Jane (Adams) Labe.
Odd Fellow Services and a time of sharing memories will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport. Private burial at the convenience of the family will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the funeral home.
