Myrtle A. Henry, 91, formerly of Perry Twp., died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Hearthstone at Maidencreek, where she resided since February 8. Her husband, Irvin C. Henry, Sr., died March 17, 1982.
Born in West Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Eva (Altenderfer) Smith. She was a 1938 graduate of Hamburg High School. Myrtle worked for various knitting mills in the area. She then owned and operated Myrtle's Beauty Shop in Reading, until her retirement. She was a member of Zion's Church, Windsor Castle. Myrtle enjoyed reading, going to the movies, and the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens. She also enjoyed the Senior Citizens group she attended while residing with her daughter in Maryland.
Myrtle is survived by one son: Irvin C. Henry, Jr., Muhlenberg Twp.; one daughter: Joanna L. (Henry) Gavaghan, Millersville, Maryland; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Elda (Smith) Rothermel, Perry Twp.; and Ruth (Smith) Wagner, Muhlenberg Twp. Myrtle was predeceased by her daughter-in-law: Kathy M. (Wert) Henry; and two brothers: Lester and Nevin Smith.
Services will be on Monday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will be in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp.
