Monroe K. Phillips, 82, a resident of Columbia Cottage and formerly of Centre Twp., died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Twp.
Born in Dauberville, he was the son of the late Henry F. and Mary E. (Kengel) Phillips. He was a 1950 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. Monroe also graduated from McCan Business School. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. Monroe worked in the purchasing department at Textile for nine years, later working as a pricing clerk at Car-Tech, Reading for 29 and a half years before retiring in August 1988. Monroe was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Twp. He was also a member of Lodge No. 62 F & A.M., Reading, A.A.S.R. Valley of Reading Consistory, and Rajah Shrine.
Monroe is survived by two daughters: Suzanne L. (Phillips) wife of Ronald L. Baylor, Hamburg; Lorie L. Phillips-Galvin wife of Gary B. Galvin, Sinking Spring; and a son: Michael S. Phillips, Ashburn, VA. He is also survived by several cousins.
Services will be held Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc. 223 Peach Street Leesport, PA 19533. Burial will follow in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery.
