Minerva J. Schappell, 95, formerly of Shoemakersville, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp., where she resided since June 2004. Her husband, Earl A. Schappell, died June 7, 1993.

Born in Bowers, she was the daughter of the late Edwin R. and Martha M. (Whitenight) Brobst. She worked for twenty-one years as a sewing machine operator for the former Burkey Underwear Company, Hamburg. She later worked at David Crystal, Reading, for six years until retiring in December 1973. Minerva was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shoemakersville Fire Company and the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens.

Minerva was predeceased by a daughter: Doris A. (Miller) Clemmer, died April 1987. She is survived by three grandchildren: Kenneth L., husband of Janice (Wetzel) Clemmer, Richmond Twp.; William E. Clemmer, Blandon; and Christina A. (Clemmer), wife of Roy Keller, Fleetwood; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister: Doris Marie (Brobst), wife of Raymond Miller, Mohnton. Minerva was also predeceased by four brothers: Clarence, Robert, Paul and Kenneth; and two sisters: Elda and Betty.

Services will be on Tuesday, June 7, at 10:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
