Mildred I. Madeira, 89, of Centre Twp., died Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville. She was taken there from Pinebrook Personal Care and Retirement Center, Orwigsburg, where she resided since November 2011. Her husband, Therman E. Madeira, died August 6, 1983.
Born in Tilden Twp., she was the daughter of the late Adam S.L. and Ellen R. (Epler) DeLong. She worked as a sewing machine operator for the Windsor Knitting Mill, Hamburg, for eighteen years and March Sportswear, Windsor Twp., for eighteen years, retiring in August 1986. Mildred was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp., where she was a former choir member. She was a member of Blue Mountain Chapter #443 Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg; Shoemakersville Senior Citizens; and a life member of Women of the Moose #786, Hamburg. Mildred was a former coordinator of the Widowed Persons of Hamburg.
Mildred is survived by two sons: Therman W. Madeira, husband of Bonnie L. Madeira, Perry Twp.; and Dennis H. Madeira, husband of Bobbe-Jean S. Madeira, Tilden Twp.; five grandchildren: Lori L. Griffith; Allen W. Madeira; Michael S. Wolf; Steven M. Wolf; and Thomas A. Wolf; five great-grandchildren: Tyler Spayd; Rick Griffith; Ashley Griffith; Lauren Madeira; and Jamie Becker; one great-great-granddaughter; Rhiannon Spayd; and her companion: Ray N. Hartman, with whom she resided. She is also survived by one sister: Mary B. (DeLong), widow of Howard Wentzel, Sr., Shoemakersville. Mildred was predeceased by a son: Ronald R. Wolf; grandson: David E. Madeira; three brothers: Harold, George, and Wayne DeLong; and four sisters: Ethel (DeLong) Hoffman; Helen E. (DeLong) Rentschler; Kathryn E. (DeLong) Freeman; Evelyn V. (DeLong) Reber.
Services from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear) on Friday at 11:00 am. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Friday 9:30 to 11:00 am with Order of Eastern Star service at 10:45 am.
