Michael D. Godfrey, 71, of Mohrsville, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Reading Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Rebecca J. (Phillips) Godfrey. They were married on June 18, 1977 and celebrated forty-six years of marriage.

Born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, he was the son of the late Arthur L. and Betty (Diehl) Godfrey. Michael graduated from Potomac High School, Oxon Hill, Maryland; and Fairmont State University, Fairmont, West Virginia.

"Mike", as many knew him, was a courier for Federal Express for twenty-nine years. During his employment, he had received the company's Bravo Zulu award which is distributed to individuals within FedEx for their outstanding performance beyond normal expectations. Mike had retired in November 2014. Michael enjoyed playing guitar, acoustic and electric; and listening to music, especially jazz and classic rock. He also enjoyed spending time with family, watching and feeding the birds, rooting for the Washington Commanders (Redskins) and traveling - Tennessee being his favorite. He also loved to drive his Dodge Challenger.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Eric M. Godfrey, husband of Nicole, Mt. Penn; and Samantha M. (Godfrey) Hurwitz, wife of Jeremy, Bernville; and five grandchildren: Sidney M., Gavin A. and Owen M. Godfrey; and Layla M. and Benjamin D. Hurwitz. Michael is also survived by his sister: Victoria L. Godfrey, Kearneysville, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens.
