Mary B. Wentzel, 93, of Shoemakersville, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in the Reading Hospital. She was the wife of Howard F. Wentzel, Sr., who died November 1, 2001.
Born in Centre Twp., she was the daughter of the late Adam S.L. and Ellen R. (Epler) DeLong. Mary worked as a sewing machine operator for 42 years for the former Globe Underwear Company, retiring in December 1982. She was a member of St. Luke's Church, Shoemakersville. She was active in the church and would bake for the church suppers as well as for the annual Children's Fair in Shoemakersville. Mary was an active member and former officer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shoemakersville Fire Company; a member of the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens; member of the Reading Hospital Auxiliary; and a member of Union Fire Company No.1 and beneficial association, Hamburg.
Mary is survived by one son: Howard F. Wentzel, Jr., and his wife Carole, Shoemakersville; two daughters: Ilabelle R. (Wentzel), wife of Norman Dietrich, Allentown; and Patricia A. (Wentzel), wife of David Pardue, Nashville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren: Lois Dietrich, and her partner Anita; Brian Dietrich, and his wife Tabitha; Melissa Seaman, and her husband Dennis; Gayle Sarmir, and her husband Mark; and Kristin Hoffman; and nine great-grandchildren: Sam, Adrienne, Nathaniel, Zachariah, Nash, Hannah, Jillian, Luke and Mary. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Monday 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Tuesday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
