Mary D. Seidel, 93, formerly of Hampden Heights, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Berkshire Center, Exeter Twp., where she resided for two years. She previously resided at Berkshire Commons for six years.
Mary was the wife of Homer G. Seidel, Sr., who died December 25, 1986. They were married in April 1944.
Born in Lenhartsville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lily Alice (Peters) Miller. She was a 1940 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 1944 graduate of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. Mary worked as a private duty registered nurse for 42 years until retiring in 1986. She was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Reading. Mary was a life member of Golden Rule Chapter No. 390 Order of Eastern Star, Reading; a member of Supreme Council Order of the Amaranth, Inc., Reading Court No. 61, West Reading; and a member of the Alumni Association of Reading Hospital School of Nursing.
Mary is survived by two sons: David L. Seidel, and his wife Ilona, Exeter Twp.; and Homer G. Seidel, Jr., and his wife Bobbie Jean, Stewartstown; four grandchildren: Geoffrey Seidel, Stewartstown; Amy (Seidel), wife of Adam Elsass, Georgia; Jenna Marie Seidel and Kelly Lee Seidel, both of Columbia, MD; and one sister: Helen Walters, a resident at Berks Heim. She was predeceased by two sisters: Pauline Miller and Manetta Behler.
There are no words to fully express our gratitude and appreciation for the care and kindness extended to Mary. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
