Obituary

Mary Joanne McLean, 85, of Bern Twp., passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Berks Heim. She was the beloved wife and lifelong partner of Larry L. McLean, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in West Reading, Joanne was the daughter of the late Leonard and Anna R. (Miller) Talys and a 1959 graduate of Reading High School. She worked at Baldwin Brass and as a dedicated warehouse manager for Pol-O-Craft, but her true life's work was her family and community. Joanne's family was the heart of her world. Affectionately known as the "lady with the camera" across the Schuylkill Valley School District, she captured and shared countless moments on film and never missed a sporting event, concert, or school musical for her children and grandchildren over the span of several decades. Her passion for supporting youth led her to serve as President of the Schuylkill Valley Music League, chaperone memorable band trips to Disney and New Orleans, and organize endless team spaghetti dinners. Unstoppable in her community spirit, Joanne also managed the concession stand for the Bern Township Little League, where she was an assistant softball coach, and was an avid bowler in local leagues at Laurel Lanes. When she wasn't attending a school or sporting event, she and Larry could often be found lighting up the dance floor at The Riveredge.

Her warm, loving spirit lives on in her devoted husband, Larry; daughters, Kellie A. (McLean) Butsack, wife of David R. Butsack of Maryland, and Kristen A. (McLean) Fogelman of Leesport; grandchildren, Kaley, Noah, Gracey, and Asher; and great-grandchildren, Xander and Cleo. Joanne was reunited in peace with her late sister, Josephine (Talys) James.
