Mary Lou Kauffman, 84, formerly of Fleetwood, a resident at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Pittsburgh, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 in St. Barnabas Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Harold M. Kauffman, who died November 21, 2017.
Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Paul O. and Irma R. (Stoudt) Christman. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1956, and later from Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She worked at Harrisburg Hospital, Penn State University, and a private practice doctor's office in Columbus, OH over her career as a nurse. She was a longtime member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. She was an avid Penn State Football fan, loved birdwatching and gardening, and was always an animal lover, especially her dogs. At church, she taught adult bible study, and was a member of the handbell choir. Mary Lou enjoyed traveling, reading, and was able to play the piano. She was a member of a Bridge Club.
She is survived by two sons: Keith J. Kauffman, husband of Michelle L. (Seward), Manalapan, NJ, and Kevin J. Kauffman, husband of Jennifer J. (Domorski), Pittsburgh; two grandsons: Devon R. and Justin J. Kauffman; and three sister-in-laws: Barbara Christman, Cincinnati, Gloria Christman, Honey Brook; and Gloria (Kauffman) Ruth, wife of Rodney, Allendale, NJ. She was predeceased by two brothers: Robert H. and Bruce S. Christman.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street Hamburg. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: St. Michael's Church, 529 St. Michael's Road, Hamburg, PA 19526.
