Obituary

Mark R. Lacina, Sr., 93, of Tilden Twp., and formerly of Collingswood, NJ, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 7, 2011. He was the husband of Gladys E. (MacMillan) Lacina. They were married on January 16, 1943 and celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Born in Buffalo, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Arthur and Emma (Otten) Lacina. Mark was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; serving as a tech sergeant in the 78th division. He was a Purple Heart recipient and received other medals when he was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. Mark worked for thirty-five years as a chief mechanic and foreman for Public Service Electric and Gas, Moorestown, Burlington County, New Jersey. He was a member of Salem-Berne United Methodist Church, Tilden Twp., where he volunteered as a handyman. Prior to moving to Berks County, Mark was a Sunday School teacher at Francis Childs Methodist Church in Collingswood; the church where he and Gladys were married. He later became a member of Haddon Heights Baptist Church of New Jersey.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Mark R. Lacina, Jr., Delanco, NJ; and Joseph A. Lacina, and his wife Michele, of Sewell, NJ; and one daughter: Marilyn J. (Lacina), wife of David H. Gross, Tilden Twp. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister: Margaret (Lacina) Zimmerman, Winsted, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by two brothers and one sister.

Services will be on Tuesday at 1:30 pm from Salem-Berne United Methodist Church, 292 Salem Church Road, Hamburg, PA 19526, with Pastor Daniel G. Herner officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Salem-Berne U.B. Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held in the church Tuesday 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Salem-Berne United Methodist Church, at the address above. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
