Obituary

Marilyn E. Long, 83, formerly of Allentown, died Monday, October 21, 2013 in Mifflin Center, Shillington. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Knauss) Fukan. Marilyn was a 1948 graduate of Allentown High School and a 1950 graduate of Allentown Business College. She first worked for the Hatboro-Horsham School District as the secretary to the principal for one of the elementary schools in the district. Marilyn also worked as a teacher's aide for seven years; worked eleven years at the Division of Parish Services of the Lutheran Church of America, Philadelphia; and then worked six years for Lutheran Social Services in Connecticut. While living in Connecticut, she also sold Discovery Toys Marilyn was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Telford. She was active in the Lutheran Church Women and was secretary of the West Berks District of Lutheran Church Women. Marilyn also taught Sunday School in churches in Hamburg and Hatboro. Marilyn is survived by two daughters: Martha L., "Marti" (Long), wife of Scott Hozey, Pottstown; and Faith M. Long, fiancé of Rick Lawrence, Peru, New York; and five grandchildren: Jason Smith, Portia, Rebecca, Douglas, and Hannah Osbourne. She is also survived by one sister: Joan L. (Fukan) Eisele, Allentown. Marilyn was predeceased by her former husband: Rev. John L. Long; an infant son; grandson: Eric Smith; and sister: Marjorie (Fukan) Eurich Gebhardt. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Grandview Cemetery, Allentown. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 107 W. Lincoln Avenue, Telford, PA 18969.
