Obituary

Marie H. Kuzan, age 104, passed into the arms of our Lord on August 29, 2025.

She was a joyfully devoted Christian, and a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother.

She spent her final days as she spent most of her life: surrounded by loved ones, thanking God for His blessings, and looking forward to "going home." Her legacy now lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and those whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.

Marie was born on February 8, 1921, in Lyons Station, PA. She was the daughter of Fred and Viola Hilbert, and sibling to three sisters, Bernice, May and Pearl; and two brothers, Ray and Wayne. Her life experiences honed within her an appreciation for hard and honest work, integrity, and service to others.

She met her match in Andrew Kuzan, whom she married in 1939. He was the love of her life, and nothing brought a smile to her face faster than the mention of him. Together, they owned and operated Kuzan's True Value Hardware in Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania from 1960-1998. They were known for their willingness to give freely and abundantly to their community, particularly to those in need. Andrew preceded her in death in 2003, but she carried the memory of him with her in her heart, and was sustained by the knowledge that they would be together again.

That knowledge now sustains her daughters, Joan Rothermel, Lancaster County, PA; Nancy Shrom (Jess) Sun City, FL; and Ruth Ann Reppert (Dorn), Shoemakersville, PA, as well as her seven grandchildren: Wayne Rothermel (Nancy), Alexandria, VA; April Reinhart (Robert), Tampa, FL; Shelley Houser (Robert), Standish, ME; Dorn Reppert II (Tiffany), Argyle, TX; Wesley Reppert (Kirsten), Takoma Park, MD; Zachary Reppert (Alex), Shoemakersville, PA; and Justin Reppert (Stephanie), Kirbyville, MO. Marie is also survived by 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and son-in-law, Jim Rothermel.

Led by her unwavering faith in Jesus, Marie loved others with a kind of love that was authentic, sustaining, and hopeful. She believed in the best of people, and encouraged us to do the same. She was affiliated with Child Evangelism in Reading, PA and taught Good News Clubs in Moselem Springs, Mount Pleasant, and Shoemakersville, PA. She also taught Sunday School at Salem Evangelical Church in Hamburg, PA. She was a member of Trinity Bible Fellowship in Blandon, PA.
