Maria Sgherza, 75, of Ontelaunee Township, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Reading Hospital. She was the wife of Gennaro Sgherza.

Born in New York City on April 12, 1951, Maria was the daughter of the late Alfred and Filomena (Benincasa) Panebianco. She was a high school graduate and went on to earn a master's degree in education. Maria dedicated her career to education and worked as a teacher at Christ the Teacher School in Fort Lee, New Jersey. She retired in 2016. Above all, Maria loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She also enjoyed movies, caring for plants, and knitting.

In addition to her husband, Gennaro, Maria is survived by her sons, Joseph A. Sgherza, husband of Stephanie A. (Weaver), Ontelaunee Township, and Alfred J. Sgherza, Caldwell, New Jersey; and her grandson, Benjamin J. Sgherza.
