Louis P. Stiefel, 76, of Bern Twp., died Thursday, August 18, 2011 in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia A. Stiefel. They were married on September 3, 1950 and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Born in Bern Twp., he was the son of the late Charles G. and Flora E. (Stanley) Stiefel. Louise worked as a truck driver, first for N.H. Garman Brothers, and then for Textile Chemical, Ontelaunee Twp., for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Nelson Armes Post 601 American Legion, Sonestown, PA; and the Leesport and Shoemakersville Fire Companies. Louis was the treasurer of the Goodwill Travelers Fishing Club. He enjoyed salt water fishing and camping the mountains with his dear friends. For over twenty-five years, Louis ran two trips a year to go deep-sea fishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Louis P. Stiefel, Jr., and his wife Patricia, Leesport; and Charles S. Stiefel, Summersville, South Carolina; one daughter: Wannita A. (Stiefel), wife of Peter Reifsnyder, Leesport; two grandchildren: Flora Schmehl and Kyle Schmehl; one great-grandson: Nathan Louis Summers; and one sister: Virginia Fink. Louis was predeceased by two brothers: Carl and Richard Stiefel; and four sisters: Mary Fiering; Catherine Freymoyer; Grace Fidler; and Pauline Shell.
