Lillian I. Schlegel, 84, of Hamburg, died Sunday, January 22, 2012 in the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp. Her husband, Clarence E. Schlegel, died August 4, 1991.
Born in Perry Twp., she was the daughter of the late Luther W. and Ida M. (Wink) Ketner. For nineteen years, she was the sexton at Zion's United Church of Christ, Perry Twp. Lillian was a 65-year member of Virginville Grange #1832. For over 50 years, she wrote articles for the Hamburg Item on various churches and the Virginville Grange.
Lillian is survived by two sons: Eugene D. Schlegel, and his companion Christine, Hamburg; and Rev. James W. Schlegel, and his wife Cynthia, Kutztown; five grandchildren: Matthew, Travis, and Kelsea Schlegel; Melody Kuykendall, and Tad Schlegel; three great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother: Irvin L. Ketner, and his wife Grace, Hamburg; and one sister: Florence A., wife of Ralph F. Schappell, Leesport. She was predeceased by a brother: Amos Ketner; and sister: Edith Wessner.
Services will be on Thursday at 11:00 am from Frieden's Church, 28 Wolf Creek Road, Shartlesville, with Rev. Jerry S. Kulp officiating. Burial will be in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will held on Wednesday 7:00 to 9:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg; and at the church Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
