Obituary

Lee F. Degler, 86, of Hamburg, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in Laurel Center after a short stay. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Shoener) Degler. They were married July 5, 1958, and celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Born in Shartlesville, he was the son of the late Raymond E. and Ida M. (Kremer) Degler. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1954. Lee was a member of First Reformed Church, Hamburg. Lee worked in the family business, Degler Chevrolet, starting in 1955 and later became owner. He worked the family business for a total of 40 years from 1955 to 1995. He was a past president of Hamburg Rotary Club in 1984, Past President of Greater Hamburg Merchants Association, 1974, former deacon at church, and a life member of the Keystone Social Club. Lee was a member of Vaux Lodge No. 406 F&AM, Rajah Shrine, and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Shartlesville Fire Company, and Hollywood Pines Hunting Club, Lycoming County. He previously served on St. John's Cemetery Board of Directors. Lee was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, and previous season ticket holder. Lee enjoyed spending his free time on his farm, Pheasant Run Farm in Tilden Twp., which he owned for approximately 30 years, and spent a lot of time there with his beloved dog, Rufus. He also enjoyed annual fishing trips to Canada, hunting, and playing poker at the farm.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Todd M. Degler, husband of Stacy, Orrtanna, PA, and Phillip C. Degler, husband of Stacy, Tilden Twp; and three grandsons: Jared, fiance of Alison Shupp, Ryan, and Adam Degler. He was predeceased by a brother: Kenneth Degler, passed October 2019.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street Hamburg (off-street parking in rear). Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the funeral home.
