Julia E. Gustitus, 88, of Hamburg and formerly of Minersville, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp., where she resided for two years. Her husband, Walter Gustitus, died September 26, 1984.
Born in Kutztown, she was the daughter of the late Llewellyn D. and Pearl (Reider) Eckert. She was a 1941 graduate of Kutztown High School. Julia worked for twenty-five years as a floor girl for the former Hemlock Knitting Mill in Minersville. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. While residing in Minersville, Julia was involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
Surviving is one daughter: Faith E. (Gustitus), wife of Joseph J. Welker, Hamburg; and one son: William L. Gustitus, and his wife Nancy, West Dundee, Illinois. There is one brother: Charles L. Eckert, Sinking Spring; and one sister: Eleanor E. (Eckert) Graupp, Reading. Julia is also survived by five grandchildren: Bradley Welker, Kimberly Reyes, Geoff Gustitus, Kristin Gramlin, and Grace Gustitus; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son: Walter C. Gustitus.
Services will be on Saturday at 1:30 pm from St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Burial will be in Mount Peace Cemetery, Minersville. A viewing will be held on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear) and at the church Saturday 12:30 to 1:30 pm.
