Obituary

John S. Zweizig, 89, of Shoemakersville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Columbia Cottage in Harrisburg. He was born in Reading, PA, on February 17, 1936, the son of the late Robert Zweizig and Laura (Stoudt) Zweizig.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia, who passed away in 2017. They shared a remarkable life together and would have celebrated 66 years of marriage this year.

He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Zweizig Hartz, of Harrisburg; and his son, Jason Zweizig and wife Kris, of Mohrsville, PA. John was the proud grandfather of Shelby Morris, Ashley Hartz, and Austin Zweizig, and was blessed with five great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy: Brantley, Colson, Audric, Lily, and Aven.

He is also survived by two sisters: Catherine Bieber, Kutztown; and Marion Dietrich, Tilden Twp. John was predeceased by three brothers: Walter, Robert and Leroy Zweizig.

In his younger years, John worked on the family farm, where he developed the strong work ethic and easygoing spirit that defined his life. He later drove cross-country as a truck driver for Diener Industries and eventually found his home and community at Mid Atlantic Canning, where he worked for more than 25 years as a shift foreman.

John proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran holding the position of Tank Commander and later continued his service in the Army Reserves.

He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, the Shoemakersville Fire Company, and Vaux Lodge #406 F. & A.M., Hamburg.

John will be remembered for his warm smile, his willingness to help anyone in need, and his lighthearted sense of humor. He always had a joke ready—often laughing before he could even get the punchline out. His presence brought comfort, joy, and laughter to all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to the staff at Columbia Cottage in Linglestown, who always made Dad feel loved and wanted.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508 in John's memory.

Services will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at 7:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial will be private in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp.
